Do You Really Believe?

Scripture: James 2:17-18, ‘In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.’

Paraphrase: Unless you live out what you believe you don’t really believe what you say you do. You can’t have the one without the other. In fact, how you live proves what you believe.

Application: Do I really believe what I say I do? Do I really believe that God is able to help me resist temptation? Do I really believe that God is able to renew my mind? Do I really believe that prayer makes a difference? Do I really believe that God’s power is real? Because the truth is that sometimes I don’t live as if I believe those things. Sometimes I give up, sometimes I feel defeated, often I try and do things in my own strength. What about you?

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I believe, help me with my unbelief. I admit that sometimes my faith is weak and that it doesn’t impact how I live. Forgive me lack of faith and fill me with Your Spirit. Allow Him to fan into flame my faith that I may fully trust in You and that my life may be transformed. In the name of Jesus Christ my Saviour I pray. Amen.
