Pray for Open Doors

Colossians 3:23
Pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.
Pray for Open Doors
Observations: Paul encourages the Christians in Colosse to ‘devote themselves to prayer, (v2)’ and as part of their prayer life he asks that the pray for them. The ‘us’ not only meant Paul and Timothy (1:1), but also the rest of Paul’s team i.e. Aristarchus, Paul’s fellow prisoner, and Mark (v10), Jesus called Justus (v11), Epaphras (v12-13) and Luke and Demas (v14). Paul desires prayer not for an personal reasons, but ‘that God may open a door for our message.’ Paul desires that the gospel may reach more people. Paul refers to the Gospel as ‘the mystery of Christ.’ Earlier Paul says that the mystery of God ‘is Christ in You, the hope of glory. (1:27)’ The mystery of Christ is that he lives in us by the Holy Spirit who guarantees our salvation from sin and eternal life. Paul has been proclaiming this message, and has even been imprisoned for it. His only desire is that his chains might not mean the end of his ministry, but that he will still find opportunities to share the gospel.

Application: Firstly, do you share Paul’s passion for the proclamation of the mystery of Christ? Secondly, do you pray for those who are involved in mission work, that God might open a door for the gospel? Thirdly, do you pray for those who have been imprisoned for their faith, that they might not give up hope but might remain faithful in their witness to Jesus Christ. Maybe you could pick a missionary who you could pray for every day, or even set aside a particular day every week in order to pray for them.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, You have made known to me the mystery of Your Son, Jesus, that through faith in Him my sins have been forgiven and I have received the Holy Spirit. Lord, that truth has changed not just my life, but my eternal destiny. Lord, help me to share that amazing truth with others. And Lord, help me to be faithful in praying for those who share the gospel in full-time ministry, that You would open doors for their message, and that You would give them strength in every circumstance. I particularly want to prayer for Rajesh Chowhan and his work in India. May You fill him with Your Spirit, with joy and peace and grace today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
